Christians Against Poverty: A Lifeline When Life Feels Too Heavy

Who are your current most favorite people?

The obvious answer will always be my family — my husband and my son are, without question, my favourite people in the world. But when I think beyond my own home, the people who volunteer at Christians Against Poverty come to mind immediately. They are true heroes: compassionate, patient, and quietly life-changing. They step into some of the hardest moments of people’s lives and bring hope, dignity, and practical help with such genuine kindness.

There are seasons in life when everything feels manageable… until suddenly it isn’t.
For me, it was money. Not because I was careless or extravagant, but because life shifted faster than I could keep up. A few unexpected bills, a few hard months — and before I knew it, I was in a financial muddle I didn’t know how to face.

I told no one.
I hid it from everyone I loved, carrying the weight alone.
The stress became overwhelming — the letters, the worry, the fear of answering the phone. Debt can feel isolating, suffocating, and deeply shameful, even though it happens to so many of us.

Eventually, at what felt like my breaking point, I reached out to Christians Against Poverty (CAP)… and that phone call changed everything.

From the very first conversation, I felt lighter. I wasn’t judged, lectured, or treated as a problem. I was treated with kindness — with dignity. CAP came to my home, sat with me, listened, and helped me breathe again. They created a payment plan I could actually manage and contacted everyone I owed on my behalf. They handled the noise so I could focus on finding solid ground again.

I will never forget their compassion.
They truly are life-savers.

If you’re struggling — even quietly — please know there is help. Debt is not a moral failure. You don’t have to face those letters or phone calls alone. Reaching out for support is an act of courage, not shame.

And if you need someone safe, respectful, and genuinely dedicated to helping people rebuild, I highly recommend contacting CAP. They gave me my hope back — and they can help you find yours too.
